PA German Folded Stars Workshop – Cornwall Iron Furance

September 16th @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

This workshop has 2 sessions:

Session 1: 10 am – noon
Session 2: 1 pm – 3 pm

Join local artist, L. Susan Wentzel, for a Pennsylvania German Folded Star
Workshop on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the historic Cornwall Iron Furnace.
Learn the magical art of paper folding as you create your own beautiful 16-pointed
stars that traditionally decorated the Christmas trees of early German immigrants.
The finished stars will be dipped into melted wax to preserve them for years to
come.

L. Susan Wentzel is a retired art teacher at Cedar Crest Middle School in Lebanon
County and was also an adjunct professor at Lebanon Valley College, teaching art
in the Elementary Education department. Since the 1970s, Sue has shared her love
of Pennsylvania Folk Art with hundreds of students. Most popular were the
Pennsylvania German folded stars, which historically were one of the first
Christmas ornaments to be introduced into Colonial America. The stars were a
strong religious symbol of the star that guided the Wise Men to Bethlehem.
All class materials will be provided; no experience necessary.
Each session is limited to 18 participants (ages 18 and older). Advance registration is
required by calling Board Treasurer Kathy Donaldson at 717-273-7560 (leave a message
with name and number if necessary).
Museum members – $15 / person; Non-members – $20 / person
This event is sponsored by the Friends of Cornwall Iron Furnace. Classes will be held in the
Historic Wagon Shop on the Furnace grounds at 94 Rexmont Road in Cornwall, PA.
