Union Canal History at Swatara

During the wagon-wheel transportation times of PA’s history, mass trade was a difficult task to accomplish due to the Appalachian Mountains. Local business owners banded together to craft a new transportation route to speed up the process. The union canal was a great transportation accomplishment filled with mistakes, trials, and hard work.
Come learn about the creation of the Union Canal, the Pine Grove Branch portion of the canal, and walk through old canal lock ruins maintained on State Park Property.
