Rail Trail Interpretive Sign Dedication

The Friends of Cornwall Iron Furnace invites the community to attend a special public dedication ceremony to unveil their newest interpretive signage panel, “The Iron Furnaces of Cornwall” on the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 10:00a.m. Part of a growing network of interpretive wayside markers developed by The Frends, “The Iron Furnaces of Cornwall” signage panel highlights the rich iron making history that shaped Cornwall and the surrounding region. Residents, history enthusiasts, and families from around the area are encouraged to join us as we commemorate the stories of the Cornwall Iron Furnaces that helped to build our community and beyond. Guests will meet at the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail Cornwall Trailhead, at the corner of Cornwall Road and 419, next to the Root Beer Barrel, at 10:00 a.m. for a brief guided walking tour, exploring the historic landscape and structures that once supported Cornwall’s early mining industry. All in attendance will be walking west for approximately a quarter of a mile to witness the unveiling of the new signage panel at its permanent site on the trail. Come and share in this meaningful moment of celebrating an important part of our local history which will be prominently displayed for all trail goers to observe. Following the dedication ceremony, guests are encouraged to enhance their understanding of Cornwall’s ironmaking heritage with a visit to Cornwall Iron Furnace, 94 Rexmont Road, for historic tours and to view our interpretive signage panels that are displayed on the furnace’s grounds, featuring “Cornwall Iron Furnace & Outbuildings”, “Cornwall Mines”, and “Ironmaster’s Estate”. Be sure to stop in the Visitor Center to view a fascinating collection of original artifacts in the exhibit gallery and browse the Museum Shop to find unique treasures inspired by the history and beauty of this National Historic Landmark property.
