Anabaptism at 500

What does a religious tradition from 1525 look like in the 21st century? Steve Nolt, Director and Senior Scholar, Young Center Professor of History and Anabaptist Studies will introduce Anabaptism, a radical wing of the Protestant Reformation and a forerunner of today’s Amish, Brethren, Hutterites, and Mennonite traditions and chart the movement’s spread and contemporary shape. Today’s “typical” Mennonite or Brethren church member is a young woman In the Congo or Nigeria, not a PA Dutch farmer in North America. Discussing how Anabaptism has changed and grown through the centuries, Steve will use examples of events and commemoration from the recent 500th Anniversary of Anabaptism’s emergence to illustrate the present and possible future of the movement.
